How much is Google’s revenue gonna go down after it leaves China

I was thinking about how much Google is gonna lose if it leaves China.Fortunately,an article posted in RWW today gives an answer to this question.I quote the estimate below:

Estimates put Google's projected 2010 income from business in China at around 2% of the company's entire revenue

2% of the total revenue?That does not sound huge,isn’t it?But still,like it was mentioned in the article,Google would have got a larger share in the future and hence it would mean that their losses are definitely more than 2 percent.

Google Real time results integrated with SERP

I am not sure if you have seen the real time results integrated with the SERP.If you have not seen it yet ,here is one that i just came across.

Google for “woork” and you will see the tweets of the popular blogger woork integrated with the SERP.If you want to see a lot more real time search results,you can of course click on updates in the search options pane.

Interesting article about the Search Engines History

So what do you really know about the search engines?You now that they crawl the web sites,index them and later run some algorithms.rank pages for keywords,key phrases and also kick out the spammers …..But that is not we are talking about right here.I am talking about the evolution of the search engines.And if you say that you are not aware of anything about it,it is time you did right now.Here is an article that is good at explaining the history in a small number of paragraphs instead of boring you to death with intolerable quantity of details.

Google shuts down the ‘More sponsored links’ section"

Whenever there was a need to see how many advertisers there were for a particular niche,some people used to go to the below URL for looking them up:

http://www.google.com/sponsoredlinks

 

Type the niche in the above page and you would be able to see the list of advertisers.You can also change the geo-location using “gl” parameter in the URL – that would show you the advertiser list for that particular niche and in that particular country.It was quite useful for Internet marketers.

But the sad fact is that it has now been shut down.People will no longer be able to use it for any purpose.I am not sure about the true reasons for the shut down.

Who is failure – another Google Bomb

Danny sullivan has reported another Google Bomb and this time,Obama is the target.The phrase for which the bomb has been done is “who is failure”.Here is a screenshot [iam taking a snap since this might not be available soon if google takes action,like it has done in the past]:

This is surely a jaw-dropping news from Udi Manber, Google’s vice-president of technology for core search.I was very amazed at him saying this statement:

If you look at all the unique queries we get in a particular day, about a third of them we’ve never seen before. One-third of them every day are unique. If you normalize for traffic in any random query … still about one-sixth of the total traffic is completely new every given day.

 

Forget the google adwords keyword tool.There is just so much potential which,unfortunately,nobody is using to its maximum.How is anyone going to use it?Still depending on the keywords tool data?People definitely need something else.

Two less used Google search operators

Here are some search operators which people normally forget to use but could be very useful for essential stuff.Here they are:

 

1.Tilde for knowing LSI keywords:

The SERP is or will soon be depending on the LSI too.So if you want to know what google thinks are the right LSI keywords for a particular keyword,you can google like this:

New Google home page can now be seen by everyone

I hope everybody knows that Google is split testing a new home page since a few weeks.If you have never seen this page,here is the chance to watch it now live.But the truth is that there is nothing to be seen there … lol…. Just a search bar and when you hover the mouse over the page,everything else shows up.I am not sure why this was needed..may be they are doing this to make it look more awesome.Do you think there is a reason for them thinking about rolling a new home page.I am not sure.

“Google is an infant !” - i cannot believe it

Techcrunch has posted today an interview with Marissa Mayer [the VP of Google search products and user experience – she is also the first woman employee at Google] .In the interview she speaks of various things like Google recently placing ads on Google news and lots more .The interview was pretty good but one thing that Marissa says in the interview is this :

 

I’ll search for the answer to those questions but that’s why I think that not only is search in its infancy in terms of the evolution of the technology, it’s also in its infancy in terms of how much people use search because you know me with my job being a search addict I would think that I would be searching about as much as anyone could

 

She says Google search technology is still in its infancy .Do you agree with that ? Iam already amazed by how Google detects the paid links [so as to improve SERP] and how it calculates the most relevant pages for a keyword with so many factors and a well optimized algorithm.But she still says its just in its infancy.

 

Clearly it means that Google has a lot more to do in the search technology – maybe it is looking to give much more importance to the personalized search in the coming decades.Whatever be it , would SEO die because of Google's to-be improved search technology ? I wouldnt be so amazed if that happens .

Google losing a court case because it doesnt want to disclose its secrets !

I have always wondered how G bots perfectly [almost] detect the invalid clicks.There are so many theories all found floating in the web regarding the click fraud detection.But we can all be very sure about the fact that these secrets will never be let out by anyone in the Google team .Because Google has just paid $721 for a banned adsense publisher since it lost a case filed in the court against it .Read the entire story here :

I hate Google localized results sometimes – its just fu**ing crazy

I agree that Google’s way of providing localized results to its users is a great idea.I mean when someone in India searches for “buy watches” it is best when the user gets results saying the stores and ecommerce websites available in India.But sometimes it is just irritating to see localized results for some search terms.Here is an example:

 

Iam now searching for the term “ecommerce CMS” and this is what i get :

 

Searching for “ecommerce CMS” in Google India domain [ pls open the images in a new tab to have a clearer picture ] :

 

 

 

One of the best results for this search term would be the article found in the following blog :

But when searching in the Indian Domain i dont find this result in the first page.

 

Searching for “ecommerce CMS” in  Google US domain :

 

 

 

You can see that the above said article is listed as the 8th relevant article for the search term in the US domain.But why is it not there in the Indian domain and in some others ? Google has done a lot of improvement in its algorithms lately including punishments for paid blog posts [which is the prime factor in G’s algos] – but i really would be happy if G takes this matter seriously.G should know when to use localized results and when not to.

 

So those of you searching for terms like “ecommerce CMS” can get more better results by trying out the US domain rather than your country domain.

You might have known that Google japan domain got slapped recently because of unwanted promotions.If you do not know what happened you can read it below :

Google japan domain getting slapped by Google because of unwanted promotions – dont be greedy !

This is what has happened to the Google japan domain – Yahoo has been dominating Japan for quite a long time and Google really did not what to lose to Yahoo.So they started getting promotions from bloggers and this came to the ears of some Google authorities responsible for the PR stuff and finally guess what happened.Google japan domain (http://www.google.co.jp/) got slapped and its PR has now been reduced to 5 from 9.But i think once they stop all those non-sense promotions the Page rank will return again.

This blog is Ranking one for firefox nodofollow addon when it should not

UPDATE :After  being there at the top spot for  the keyword ‘firefox nodofollow addon’ for a couple of days , this page has now lost its top spot in SERP for the keyword.Google rectifies its mistake atlast .

One of the coolest addons in firefox is the nodofollow addon.I use it everyday for my analysis.I had done a previous blog post regarding the coolness of this addon and is given below :

The tragedy is that the above blog post ranks no.1 in Google for every keyword related to ‘nodofollow addon’  and the firefox page containing the addon is ranking next to me .I know it should not .

 

But in Yahoo everything is fine.The firefox page of the addon ranks first.Iam not sure what part of the algorithms in Yahoo is making the right decision regarding this keyword.

 

Atleast yahoo beats Google in this search result.Or is it really better than google ?

Is Google in a better position in eliminating paid links by asking users to help it ?

Google has a lot to do regarding paid links.Paid links seem to be a big head ache to the Googlers working on the SERP algorithms and PR .I agree that it is a very difficult job in exactly finding which website or blogs sell links and which does not .But Google has been asking its users to help eradicate this problem .have a look here :

The day the Google bots went crazy

This is the craziest thing i have ever seen and experienced in my life.For every term i google , i get the “This site may harm your computer” message in the Google search results.Have a look at the snapshots i took :

 

 

Google says that “Google.com”  and all its services may harm my computer.So am i being suggested not to use google from today ? Well that is difficult .

Google has more than 1 million advertisers … phew

Google’s supremacy in the world wide web is never going to end.It was always a mystery for people about google’s processes.One of the things that i have always wanted to know is about the google’s advertising.Fortunately nytimes just released reliable piece of info about google that Google had over 1 million advertisers in 2007.can you believe that? I doubt how much it is now .

Here are some excerpts from the nytimes post [bolded paragraphs ]:

 

Interestingly, each advertiser, on average, spent a little more than $16,000 a year on Google. That figure changed little between 2003 and 2007.

 

So that means more money for adsense publishers !

 

Ben Schachter, an analyst with UBS, said he expects the current number is likely to be between 1.3 million and 1.5 million. Google declined to comment on the current size of its advertising base.

Why does Google use a red color highlight to show the keyword of the search term ? And the bad thing is that this makes it look like a spam site [ just kidding ] .But it does seem odd .

My blog post gets included in google SERP in 2nd page within 7 minutes

I really dont know what is going on in google.There are so many oscillations in SERP ; webmasters talking about algorithm changes – we can never believe in all these guesses unless one of the google employess reveals the truth and iam sure this is not going to happen .

But here is something i noticed recently.Google indexing and then including my blog post in their SERP within 7 minutes .

This is a snapshot of the google SERP.the search query was “google algorithm +change 400” .I made a post ;submitted them to two of the social sites [ humsurfer.com and indianbytes.com ] and when i checked the SERP this what i saw [ see the 3rd result in the snapshot – that shows my blog and that the post was included 7 minutes ago ]:

 

 

But yeah the post later lost the SERP – i dont know when it lost the ranking .But what i want to point out is the abnormal way in which the google bots have acted by including a fresh post in the 2nd page of google SERP within 7 minutes .
